Lynette scooted next to Ty so their arms touched. She pointed to Polaris with her opposite hand. “Ursa Minor is the easiest to find. It comes straight off the North Star, forming what looks like a handle with two more.” She traced her finger through the air. “See the box the next four stars make?”

When he didn’t answer she felt the weight of his stare on her, heady, consuming. Shivers zipped along her skin, and she brought her arm down to her side and met his gaze.

“I was trying to show you the Little Dipper.”

“And I was watching your lips move while you did.”

“Why?” she asked softly. They were inches apart and the closeness stimulated the exhilaration she felt when he kissed her. Thank goodness she was lying in the sand, otherwise her knees would have given out and she’d be nothing put a crumpled mess at his feet.

“Because your mouth is more interesting.”

“Oh.” Her heart slammed against her chest, pulsed in the back of her throat. “I wanted to help you remember.”

The corner of Ty’s lips twitched, and his eyes narrowed a bit. He rotated his gaze to the sky and threaded his fingers through hers. “What if I don’t want to remember? What if I told you dredging up memories isn’t a good thing? That I’m better off without them.”

She stared at him for a few seconds, considered pushing him for more, but noticed the fracture of his guarded wall closing fast. She had to lighten the mood, or risk losing him completely. Before Lynette even realized what she was doing, she swung her leg around his waist and sat with her knees in the sand, straddling the most beautiful man she’d ever seen. His eyes went wide, and she laughed to conceal her own surprise.

“I’d say you need to make new memories, Officer Sellers.”

His green orbs turned heated. They fixed on her lips for a few seconds then slowly lowered to examine her bra-and-panty clad body. Not exactly what she expected with her attempt to change the vibe, but she’d take this for sure. He lifted his hands to her shoulders and ran the backs of his fingers the length of her arms, sending vibrations dancing through her veins. She stopped breathing when he reached her wrists. The desire to feel his touch on every inch of her skin conquered her thoughts when his attention went to her thighs. He ran his fingertips up and up until he gripped her waist. A light squeeze of his strong hands made her gasp.

“Come here,” he muttered, voice low and throaty, eyes hooded.

Her center clenched, her mind focused on nothing but the feel of his touch, the frenzied look in his eyes, how they conflicted with the sternness of his jaw, the softness in his hands. Lynette leaned forward, hovered inches from him with her palms buried in the sand. “Like this?” she asked in a whisper, the prevailing need to please him consuming her.

Ty slowly nodded, his chest heaving. “Exactly like this.”

He searched her face, flashed a faint smile, and grabbed a handful of her wet hair, bringing her mouth to his. His tongue dove between her lips and tangled with hers, frantic, needy. He pressed between her shoulder blades, forcing her to collapse against him. Skin to skin, both of them groaned at the contact.

The café, four doors down from the flower shop, smelled of baked goods and coffee. Scott’s stomach rumbled, and he realized he was hungrier than he’d thought. They’d taken a small booth next to the front window and ordered turkey and cheese sandwiches on wheat.

Waiting on their food, he watched from across the table as Jennica gathered her honey tinted hair and draped it over her right shoulder, her gaze fixed to the world on the outside the glass. The fullness of her light pink lips relaxed to a natural pout, and he couldn’t help but wonder what they would feel like against his. He also wondered, thanks to the image created by the handcuffed flowers and box full of floggers at her store, how she might look naked and restrained while he pleasured her. The image sent blood rushing to his cock, and he’d never been so glad to be sitting in a booth since his rock hard boner threatened to bust the zipper of his jeans.

She didn’t turn to face him until the waitress sat their plates of food on the table. “So, I hear you’re a pretty big deal in this town.” A polite smile crossed her mouth, though it didn’t reach her eyes.

Damn gossip. He snorted. “Far from it. There’s no telling what you’ve heard though.” He wasn’t surprised the rumors had reached her. Since he’d been back, the mixed emotions from almost everyone he knew were apparent and not many people were afraid to share their newest epiphany with anyone who would listen. He studied her for signs of suspicion, but he found none. She appeared unfazed by whatever she’d been told before meeting him. Maybe the pedestal he’d been placed on five years ago had been all she’d heard about. But that wasn’t him either…never was. “Everyone thinks they have the truth.”

“It has to be difficult, knowing…or not knowing what’s being said. Have you tried to set the record straight?” She took a bite of food and prodded at the ice cubes in her drink with the straw.

“No. It doesn’t matter to me what people think.”

“You definitely don’t seem the way you look.”

“Hmm. Explain.” He sat back in the booth, teasing her with narrowed eyes, and she fidgeted in her seat. This should be good. He couldn’t wait to hear her perception of him.

A broad smile lit up her face and she looked more beautiful than he’d ever seen her. “You’re not the average, stereotypical computer geek.”

He busted out laughing. Again, she had surprised him. “Computer geek? I expected something along the lines of ‘brooding, failed athlete gone rogue.’”

“I think maybe computer geek suits you more.”

Tantalizing Tuesday ~ Hijacked

Hi! I'm so happy to be visiting here today. I've brought along an excerpt of Hijacked, the second novella in The Night Series. This is one of my favorite scenes- chocolate pie, coffee, and a hot guy.

The waitress delivered her coffee and Sharon ordered a piece of chocolate fudge pie. Not that she was hungry, she wasn’t, and as much as she loved sweets, she didn’t usually eat them, but she figured the entire night had been out-of-order so why not finish it out with something that would make her stomach happy.

Once the slice of chocolate goodness was staring back at her, she took a small bite, savoring the sweetness, and leaned back against the cushioned seat. She dug through her purse and pulled out the romance novel she’d started reading earlier in the week. Within minutes she was lost in the pages, just stopping long enough to sip coffee or get another mouthful of smooth chocolate.

Five chapters later, on the outer limits of her thoughts she heard someone talking, saying a name over and over again. Keeping her eyes on the page in front of her, she tuned in to the voice, a man’s.

Familiar.

Kyle.

“Missy or Sharon?” His voice echoed in her head.

She closed her eyes, forcing her lids to block her sight, she told herself it was not happening. Kyle was not standing a foot away from her table. He was not giving her that damn crooked smile that made her heart do crazy things under her chest walls—flutters and flips she couldn’t control. She heard movement, heard someone slide into the seat across from her. She released the breath she’d been holding. Continuing to convince herself that if she didn’t see him, he wasn’t really there, she lifted the book directly in front of her face and opened her eyes to the black print that no longer looked like formed words but jumbled letters scattered across the page.

Her plate scooted across the table. The fork clinked against the cheap white glass on which her half-eaten slice of pie sat. She gnawed on the inside of her lip. Was he seriously eating her pie?

“What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” he asked.

She flinched at his voice and turned a page as if she could make sense of the printed words.

“Does Vic know you’re here?” he asked, lightly tapping the fork against the plate.

Sharon lowered the book, laying it on the table, and met his eyes. In the light of the diner the blue in them was more intense than what she recalled. And they were smoldering and sexy as hell, and the way they watched her made the inside of her thighs quake. She took a deep breath, fighting the urge to literally crawl across the top of the table and straddle him where he sat. Holiday Recipes: Sidda Lee Tate's Tortilla Pinwheels

This is a holiday appetizer favorite with my family. They're great for entertaining and you can always make extra rolls to pull out once the company is gone.

Ingredients:
1 cup sour cream
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
4 ounces black olives, chopped and drained
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup green onions, chopped
4 ounce can green chilies, chopped
seasoned salt to taste
5 10-inch flour tortillas

Combine sour cream, cream cheese, green chilies, black olives, cheddar cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and seasoned salt in bowl. Mix well.

Divide into 5 portions. Spread 1 portion on each tortilla. Roll.

Wrap each tortilla in plastic wrap, twisting ends to seal tightly.

Chill in refrigerator for several hours.

Cut into 1/2 to 3/4 inch slices. Place on serving dish.

Serve with a side of picante sauce.

Dream a Little Dream

I always dream about my stories. Nearly every night I go to sleep thinking of where the characters will direct me on the next chapter of their lives, and I know this is the reasoning behind my dreams.

 

But a little over a week ago, something different happened. I woke with a clear visual of people I had to write about. I knew their names, their occupations, where they lived, how long the couple had been together and what obstacles they would encounter to test the strength of their relationship. It blew my mind.

“You will never believe this,” I texted to my sister, my mom, and a good friend, informing them all with excitement and awe about the clarity. Each one responded by telling me to get my butt to the laptop. Lol!

Thank goodness I was off work and able to attack the keyboard with my first cup of coffee because with this story, I was urgent to put into words before it escaped me.

I’m not a plotter. I’ve tried and found that no matter what I plan, my characters have their own mind. Whatever the struggle…they always win, going their own way, doing their own thing and I am nothing but an outlet for their lives to be known.

That being said, for this story, I’ve taken another shot at outlining, and I’m pretty certain that by the time I finish, it will be a full length novel…a racy, pushing the limits of love, sex fest that I can’t wait to finish. Fingers crossed people!

With several projects going it will take longer to complete than I want but I can’t just work on one thing either. Which is an entirely different issue. Ha!

Avoiding the Block

It’s more than an addiction.

It’s who I am.

I have to write every day.

What happens if I don’t?

I have a hard time getting back into “author mode”.

The fact is, the more days that go by, the more hindered I become and the longer it takes to get back in my routine. I realized this a few days ago after staring at the blinking cursor on my screen for over two hours without typing one single sentence.

Coming close to throwing my beloved computer across the room and vowing never to write again (I’m not dramatic at all) a moment of clarity slapped me in the face—nearly twelve days had ticked by and the closest thing to a sentence I’d written was signing my name to a credit card slip. I’d been on vacation for a week and jumped right back to my day job without so much as even picking up the lap top. It’s no wonder I couldn’t think.

When I tell people this, I usually get the you-must-be-crazy look but, I write like I read—multiple stories at once. I can’t help it. It works for me. Currently I’m working on the third installment for my Night series, a short Christmas themed story for Beachwalk Press, and two full novels. If I become stuck on a story line or the characters are going in a completely different direction than what I planned and I find myself fighting them, I take a break and open up another WIP. Most of the time, the conflict between us is resolved by the time I get back. Yes, the characters always win.

Music helps my writing flow more than anything.

I messaged a fellow author confessing my predicament and she wisely informed me that music inspires her…something I already knew works for me, but with the fear of falling deeper into a life of only sitting at the keyboard with my fingers positioned on the little black tabs without moving, I’d failed to think of it.

A few new songs have been downloaded and set to repeat on my phone. Thanks to the advice of Jaye Shields and my new favorite musicians; Emporers, Pete Yorn and Imagine Dragons, I’ve moved past the torture of not being able to pen the next scene in my stories. Also I’ve learned no matter where I am, or what is going on in my life I need to write. Even if ten minutes is the most time I can squeeze in, I have to do it.
