Tantalizing Tuesday - Amber's Muse by Lacey Wolfe

This week for Tantalizing Tuesday, I'm sharing an excerpt from my debut novella Amber's Muse.

Amber grabbed the bottle of wine and refilled both glasses. She thought about chugging the bottle down for liquid courage, but didn't know how that would look. Taking the glasses, she headed into the living room and tried to get comfortable and appear sexy at the same time.

Jax came out of the kitchen and took a seat on the couch across from her, still holding a towel as he dried his hands. She had to just get it out or she was going to chicken out. She could tell Jax was anxious to know what was going on.

"Okay, so the reason I asked you over tonight…" She grabbed her glass and took a big sip of wine. Screw it, she needed liquid courage. She drained her glass and set it down. Taking a deep breath, she blurted out, "I'm writing a book."

"That's awesome. Did you want me to edit it or something?"

"Um, no," she replied. "Okay, this is tough to ask. So I guess I should just say it."

Jax just looked at her, waiting. He looked sexy as hell sitting with his arms across the back of the couch. It was now or never.

"The book I'm writing is an erotic romance." She studied his face; a slight smirk formed on it. "As you might know, I don't get a whole lot of male company around here, and well, past experiences have never really left me satisfied, so I don't have a lot to go on."

"Are you asking me for porn or something?"

She bit her bottom lip and let out a slight laugh. "No, I'm asking if you would be interested in being a test subject for me."

Jax lost his smirk and his eyes widened.

"I have a lot of ideas, I just don't know how they would exactly play out, if you get my drift. I want to try them with you."

"Are you asking me what I think you are?"

"What do you think I'm asking?"

"You want to have sex with me to help with your book?"

"Yes." Her eyes locked on his.

Jax stared back, his eyes darkening with passion. Silence stood between them.

"Where do I sign up?" he responded.

By day Amber's a librarian, and by night she hides away writing erotic romance novels. She has just one problem—not enough sexual experience to pull from. A recent steamy dream leaves Amber wondering if her neighbor Jax might be just the guy who can help her. Jax has lived next door to Amber for a year and has tried everything he can think of to get her to notice him, but it hasn't worked. Until recently. Amber's Muse turns 2!!!

My debut novella Amber's Muse from Beachwalk Press turns 2 on October 16th! I can't believe it. I really can't. The day the contract came to my inbox was also my son's 7th birthday. I just knew it was another rejection. This story was on draft 10 -- no lie. With each rejection I received, I went back and made changes. And then sent it back out. So when Beachwalk Press took a chance on me and finally helped me achieve my dream of being publishing--well it was a dream come true!

And now 2 years later, I'm still chugging along and feeling my way around in this world of books trying to find my place. In 2 years I've written hot and spicy erotic, as well as a super sweet romance. I've nestled down now between the two genres that I like to call my stuff sensual contemporary romance. 

So now, let's visit the birthday book and see what it's all about.

Amber's Muse and This Past Year

Amber's Muse, the first book that was published in my name. This is the story that changed my life. Before I wrote Amber's Muse, I had written an 80,000 word novel. I loved this novel and I still do. But, its still on a file on my computer. Why, because of its length and the amount of work it needs.

In this past year, I have learned a heck of a lot. And that 80,000 word novel scares me now. But, my plans are to one day fix it up and hope to give it a home. Its a romantic suspense, and my first attempt at ever writing a sex scene. Perhaps for kicks, I should take a peek at it. :)

When I wrote Amber's Muse, my 15,000 word novella, it was more to see if I could write erotic romance. The genre was big and even bigger now. I thought and thought about a plot I thought might be sexy. More then any other heroine before, I releate to Amber. She, like me at the time, was trying to get published and Jax was her sexy guinea pig.

Even though I have published several books since this one, I still look at this cover and smile. This cover means more to me then just a story. This is the story that brought me to Beachwalk Press. Beachwalk Press is a publisher that goes above and beyond. My fellow authors are my best friends. I'm so glad that over a year ago, Beachwalk took a chance on me.
