Yikes, give me more hours!

Good morning/ afternoon/ evening!

Because it's gone that fast... I was just setting down to write this blog and six other things jostled their way into my attention... so, this will be a scattered version of what I wanted to write (which escapes me right now...)

Many years ago, I used to go to a lovely old gentleman's house for some drawing classes - mainly cartoons and pen and inks - well, one day, he tentatively asked me if I liked erotica - "Hell yeah!" I replied and so we started drawing erotic inspired pictures together.

So just the other day I was having a massive clear out and came across some of the work I did at his house. Here are a couple of examples - I'll post more on my own site later.

So thank you for reading this somewhat dis-jointed blog... I'd better go finish those edits, get on with that submission, do my book trailer, get some cards printed - good grief - where's the coffee...?

Time, time, time

Arrgh! Where does the time go? It's mid-way through April 1012 - just take a moment to register that. It's 2012.

Where are our hover boards? They promised us jet packs!

When I was at school, there was a drawing competition where we had to make a picture of what life would be like in the year 2000. So, as you can probably imagine, it was all Back to The Future type flying cars and robots serving the dinner or doing the cleaning. There was one painting however, that was a little different to the rest. It was a very drab rendition of a housing estate drawn from above with normal looking houses and normal looking cars that drove very much like normal cars - with tyres, on the road. I remember thinking as I handed in my rocket time machine jet pack house, what if he was right? What if this child's vision for the future was  correct?

I waited patiently for the millennium. And lo, it was the same as the year before, and the year before that. there were no jet packs, no hover boards and no friendly robots drying the dishes and bringing tea.

So, why am I writing this post?

Well, it just occurred to me that - 12 years later and I still don't own a hover board - I mean, come on!

And then, I comfort myself with the happy fact that I can make the world of my characters into what ever I feel like at the time - so - expect some jet pack action in my new novel - (maybe...)

What did you think we'd have by now?

Time

Wow, I can't believe a week has passed since my last post. This whole year has been so quick and now, it's autumn. Well and truly. I stayed for a short time in the US when I was younger and just loved this season over there - I will forever be haunted, not by Halloween ghouls, but by the perfect pumpkin pie that I tasted in Cincinnati... I've tried to re-create the culinary joys but it's just not the same. So feeling cosy with cinnamon and a crochet blanket is what's going on for me today.
But my other theme, time... it's a real killer for a writer sometimes. I am a deadline kinda gal and unless a story is really flying along, I won't get truly into it unless I set myself one (maybe Lacey and I should set one for each other!- see yesterday's blog). Or the other thing that helps - incentives... for example, if I finish this blog by 10am, I can have a lovely big mug of fresh coffee to celebrate - now I will do just about anything for a good cuppa coffee, so that's always a good one!
When I am in the writing zone, there is never enough time - it slips past like clouds scudding across a windy sky and I can never quite keep up or catch it - if I am really into a storyline, hours can pass like seconds - that's how absorbed I can get. At the other end of the scale, however, staring at an empty page, ideas backing up and squirming about just out of reach, stretches time into its most unbearable state. Like an event horizon, never ending. But, I am stubborn and just sit. What I should learn to do is leave well alone and go out and do something nice, like get that lovely big mug of coffee and continue my quest for the elusive pumpkin pie - and for now, friends, that is exactly what I'm going to do!
Thanks so much for stopping by,
Tabitha x
