Spicin' It Up Wednesday Flash Fiction Contest!

*CLOSED*

Winner is Krista Ames!

Fantastic stories everyone! I hope to see you next week :)

Welcome to Spicin' It Up Flash Fiction Wednesday! What the heck's flash fiction? you ask. Well it's a fun way to tell a story in a set amount of words. It's a great way to get the creative juices flowing and it's fun to challenge yourself even if you're not a professional writer. I personally was introduced to flash fiction by Siobhan Muir's Thursday Threads and fell in love.

Now the Rules:

I'll give you a writing prompt and you'll write a story including said prompt that's between 150-250 words. That means it must be at least 150 words BUT no more than 250 words. Leave your story in the comments section below. I'll be the weekly judge and you'll want to leave your name, email address, and word count for me at the end of your story. I have to have all these things, especially the email addy to contact the winner. :)

The contest will run from Wednesday 12 AM Eastern (U.S.) to 11:59 PM Eastern (U.S.). Make sure to get your story in before closing! Any posted after 11:59 PM will not be entered. I'll announce the winner Thursday on this blog post, the Beachwalk Press Readers' Group and will also email the winner by Thursday evening.

And what does the winner receive? This nifty button to show off where ever they darn well please and bragging rights that they told a fantastic story in 250 words or less! :)

(FYI All stories submitted are the intellectual property of the authors.)

This week's writing prompt is: She couldn't believe her eyes

You must include the exact words in the writing prompt above. It can be anywhere in the story, as long as it's in there.

This is open to everyone, readers and authors alike, and I'll judge based on the story told and not the name behind it :)

Now have fun and blow me away with your awesome stories!

  1. She couldn’t believe her eyes…
He’s here! The cowboy I keep seeing. He almost had me last month, but I left him hanging and hard. He He! I don’t plan on doing that this time. I want his jeans around his ankles, me on my knees and him screaming my name when he comes. I want my hair pulled, spread eagle on his bed and screaming his name.
Oh yes, I’m that of girl when it comes to sex. Hard and fast with a little roughness thrown in, too. As they say, a lady of the house and a wildcat in the bedroom. Oh.my.God. She couldn’t believe her eyes. His is sex on a stick. Hard, heavy and I could ride him for more than 8 seconds.
He’s coming my way. What to do? Flirt? Kiss him? Ignore him?
Throwing out every thought I had, I shoved my tongue down his throat when he finally approached me. Just a taste of him now isn’t going to be enough. Taking his hand, I lead him to a backroom of the bar where I know it would be private. No words were exchanged between us. Just clothes flying off, zippers being pulled and very soon the sound and smell of sex.
Oh yes that felt good. Pulling their clothes on, I asked the question, “Did you feed the dog before you left?”

  2. She couldn't believe her eyes when Jen saw Corey on bended knee.
“What are you doing?” She covered her mouth as a tear ran down her cheek.
“What does it look like?” He winked and held out a black box.
    “But…but…”
He held a finger over his lips. “Would you just let me talk? I know what I said last night. I was a fool.”
She nodded as more tears moistened her cheeks. Last night he’d said he thought he was going to move out. What had changed in the past twenty-four hours.
“I was packing my things.” He wiped his forehead. “But then I just couldn’t do it. Just a few weeks ago I was going to propose to you, but then, well..you know.”
She did. They’d gotten into a car accident and it had caused a huge fight between them because he’d been on his phone—like usual—and not watching the road. It was forgivable though, but for some reason, since then they’d just argued.
“I couldn’t leave. I love you, Jen. More than I can describe. I want to work on this and have a life with you.” He paused to catch his breath. He wobbled on his knee. “That’s what marriage is, right? Working together with a common goal to be together. I love you. I can’t do this life thing without you. We can take this as slow as you want, but would you do me the honor of being my wife?”
She rubbed her temple and gazed at Corey. The moment she met him, she knew then he was her soul mate. “Yes, Corey. I will.”
“Good. My knee is killing me.” He stood and she lunged into his arms, pressing her lips to his.

  3. (Non-entry)
The sun shone bright, lending its golden glory to the dried wheat growing in the rolling fields surrounding the old farmstead. A picture perfect day, thought Sara. A day to revel in, a day to absorb into every pore and every cell of her body. Yet the notion was fleeting, because behind her, the home stood empty, abandoned by the previous owner.

Sara’s heart broke anew as she turned and faced the weathered siding, the patched roof, the sagging porch in desperate need of repair. All combined left the impression someone ancient had lived there. Someone who had once loved the place so much that they’d let the house age with them. Unfortunately, once old, people couldn’t be fixed with a few coats of paint and new shingles. The house remained, the owner was gone.

“I miss you Mama,” Sara whispered, letting her fingers trail along the porch railing. Splinters nicked her fingertips. A climbing rose twisted around the wood, a dried up hint of what it once was—a riot of pinks in the summer, carefully tended and loved.

Sara closed her eyes, and she could almost smell the sweet fragrance of roses beneath the musty smell of the aged wood. She could almost hear her mother humming as she always did while waiting for the school bus to bring her children home. She couldn’t believe her eyes when at last she opened them. There in the long dead bramble grew a single delicate pink rose.

  4. “Please go away, I promise I’ll never hurt you. I just came here for peace and quiet.”

After hearing a ruckus outside, Piper stood in the doorway of her mountain hideaway, not seeing a thing through the darkness of night and trees but knowing something was there. For days she’d been leery to go outside the cabin, afraid of the howling sounds invading her private cove hidden among the monstrous pines. Sleep evaded her the last three nights as the wolf echoes came closer and closer. At times, the low growling was so near it gave her the chills. It couldn’t be, but Piper swore the wolf had been right below her window.

She couldn’t believe her eyes. The wolf she knew had been keeping her awake all hours of the night suddenly appeared in the clearing, standing a mere fifty feet from the cabin. Her body began to shake uncontrollably. The more fear that racked her slender frame, the closer the wolf came until he was at the base of the porch steps.

“Shoo now, be a good doggie.” Shit, I don’t even have a weapon to fend him off.

Frozen where she stood and too afraid to retreat, Piper watched as the wolf ascended the stairs, changing with each step he took until right in front of her face stood a gloriously naked man.
A faint whisper invaded her mind as strong arms caught her before everything went dark.

“You could hurt me more than you know…”

  5. She lay alone in a big bed that was made for two. There wasn’t a noise in the house, not even the comforting creak of the building settling after a day of intense heat. Not the movement of another human being, not even the soft pitter patter of a cat’s feet.

He should have been there beside her, his slow, easy breaths the white noise she went to sleep to each night. But he was gone, never to lie beside her again.

She rolled over, tried to forget the ache that had developed in her chest from the moment she got the news. But how could someone forget news like that? It reverberated through her mind, repeating so often it had become something like a mantra. "Your life is over," it seemed to say. She would never forget that.

And then there was a sound, just the slightest moan, as the bedroom door began to swing inward.

    She couldn’t believe her eyes…
