I'm friends with the voices... #ellajade1 #giveaway

As I get deeper into this author thing, people often ask me where I come up with my ideas, how I actually write a book and where my inspiration comes from. They're amazed at how I managed to turn out so many books in my three year journey. Trust me... it's been a lot longer than three years.

Most of the time the stories have been in my head for years. Little snippets of dialog that I hear over and over again. When they become too loud for me to ignore that's when I know it's time to start developing the book.

I have journals full of starts. Some of them will never see the light of day and others may end up in a book as a sub-plot. The most important thing for me when developing a book...

I have to know where I'm headed. I need to see the entire story unfold in my head from beginning to end before I'll even consider turning it into a book. Of course, the middle changes and evolves and the characters develop and grow by the time I type 'The End', but the bones of the plot are with me long before I even have character names or a setting. If I can't work it out before I start, I usually bag it. That doesn't mean I won't revisit the idea later, it just means that particular book won't go smoothly for me at that time. This method also helps with writer's block. I seldom ever get stuck or write myself into a hole. I owe that luck to the fact that I have it all going on in my mind before I even try to develop the story.  This works for me so I stick with it.

When I saw this quote from Joyce Carol Oates I totally identified.
