The Elf On The Shelf

**Note: Beachwalk Press is currently doing a holiday tour. Also starting on Dec. 1, a scavenger hunt will begin. Click HERE for tour stops and HERE for scavenger hunt.

Its that time of the year again. Time to start decorating, getting together with family, and stuffing our faces. Last year my mother over her break (she's a teacher), brought home her elf on the shelf from her classroom. My kids got a kick out of it. So, I wanted to attempt to do this for them here. Well, when I looked up the price of the elf and book my mouth dropped open. I just couldn't spend that. We have been a one income family for almost eight years. Never once have we regretted it. We have always lived within our means and before any purchase we stop and think if this is something we really need.

So to the expensive elf and book, I decided that was a negative. So instead I took a trip to the dollar store and I bought an elf with long legs. He looks just like a stuffed animal. But hey, he was $1. So, this morning the kids got up and were super excited. They then asked why our elf looked different from the other one. So, I asked them, "does everyone look the same?" They said no and are content with their elf.

Now to see what king of mischief I can get this elf into. :)

See you next Monday

  1. Lacey, Great post! I'm a stay-at-home-mom also and you do you pick and chose what to buy and what not to buy.

You handled that perfectly. Give yourself a pat on the back!!!

  2. I don't have an elf, but if I buy one I think I would definitely prefer one that does not look like every other elf! Great idea!!
