Her miniature collie’s leash tangled about her ankle as the young woman entered the dog park. A muscled arm shot out like a rocket and caught her under the elbow, preventing her face from smacking into a wooden bench.
ReplyDelete“Thank you,” she said and yanked down on her denim pant to cover her leg as he gently lifted her to standing. “He’s normally not excited to come here.”
She steadied herself, then unsnapped the leash from her dog’s collar. The long haired pet ran toward the canine gymnastic equipment and immediately connected with a white poodle. The two dogs walked in a circle and sniffed at each other.
“Not only does Max hate the dog park, but he never plays with other dogs.”
“That’s Shelby. She’s my cockapoo. Got her from the shelter.”
The woman tilted her head and an endless ocean of blue filled the sky. No, it was his eyes. Her breath went in instead of out as she gasped at the handsome stranger. She smiled and held out her hand to the man who broke her fall.
“Collette.”
“Micah.” He extended his left arm. “Gulf war,” he said apologetically. Instead of a right hand he held up a smooth silver hook. “Titanium from the elbow down.”
Collette lifted her pant leg and revealed a metal pole attached to her shoe. “Shark bite. Aluminum. My good leg’s at home.”
He laughed. Max and Shelby chased each other while Micah and Collette discovered that they both loved Thai food.

Brett was enjoying the beautiful summer morning walking on the beach with his dog Butch. He unclipped the leash from the collar and pulled a tennis ball from his pocket.
“Go get it boy,” he hollered as he threw the ball. Brett laughed as he watched Butch run after it. Before he knew what was happening, Butch picked it up and raced toward a woman reading on the beach.
“What the hell,” the stunned stranger screeched when Butch planted the ball in her lap.
“Butch, No!” Brett yelled as he ran toward the woman.
“I’m so sorry,” he managed to say. The woman in front of him was beyond beautiful.
“It’s okay. It’s not your fault,” she responded as she tried to stand up.
Brett held out his hand and helped her up. Once on her feet she looked into his eyes. For a moment it was as time stood still. An endless ocean of blue filled the sky when he gazed into her eyes.
“Hi,” was all he managed to squeak out.
“Hi! This must be Butch,” she replied as she pointed to the dog. “And who might you be?”
“My name is Brett, and again I’m so sorry,” he stammered, taken by her beauty.
“It’s nice to meet you Brett. I’m Stacey.”
“Stacey, the pleasure is all mine. Would you like to take a walk with us?”
“I thought you would never ask,” she replied with a smile.
Nice jobs, ladies!
